Photography Usage & Licensing Policy

Frames With Purpose

Thank you for supporting Dogs in the Wild Photography. This policy outlines how photographs may be purchased, shared, and used. Its purpose is to protect the photographer’s work while providing clear, straightforward guidelines for individuals, clubs, and organizations.

Copyright & Ownership

All photographs created by Mike Hosier / Dogs in the Wild remain the copyrighted property of the photographer.

Purchasing or receiving a photograph grants a license to use the image according to this policy. It does not transfer copyright or ownership.

Dogs in the Wild retains the right to display, publish, exhibit, license, and sell its photography, including use on websites, social media, promotional materials, books, editorial projects, and other publications, unless otherwise agreed in writing.

Personal Use

All photographs are sold for personal use only unless otherwise mutually agreed upon in writing.

Permitted personal uses include:

  • Sharing photographs on personal websites and social media.
  • Making prints for personal display, gifts, and keepsakes.
  • Sharing photographs with friends and family.
  • Promoting personally owned dogs, breeding programs, and available litters.
  • Using photographs in dog show advertisements, announcements, and similar activities involving personally owned dogs.

These permitted activities do not include transferring image rights to businesses, publishers, organizations, or other third parties.

Photographs may not be resold, sublicensed, redistributed as digital files, or otherwise made available for independent use by others.

Digital File Formats & Resolution

Dogs in the Wild offers digital photographs in several formats to accommodate different needs.

  • WR — Web Resolution: A smaller digital image with a watermark, intended for online sharing.
  • WRW — Web Resolution Without Watermark: A smaller digital image without a watermark, intended for online sharing.
  • HR — High Resolution: A higher-resolution image suitable for quality prints up to approximately 8 × 10 inches.
  • SR — Super Resolution: The highest available resolution, intended for larger prints and applications requiring greater image detail.

Actual print suitability may vary depending on the photograph, crop, and printing method.

Purchasing a higher-resolution file does not grant additional licensing rights. All file formats remain subject to the same usage restrictions unless otherwise agreed in writing.

Club & Organization Usage

Dogs in the Wild works with dog clubs and organizations to document events, activities, and the sporting traditions surrounding our dogs.

Photographs specifically provided to a club or organization may be used for its own event recaps, website, social media, newsletters, and related organizational communications, subject to any limitations communicated when the images are provided.

This permission applies only to the receiving club or organization. It does not extend to individual members, event participants, sponsors, or other third parties.

Permission to photograph an event does not automatically grant the hosting club or organization rights to the resulting photographs.

Individual participants wishing to obtain photographs of their dogs must purchase them directly from Dogs in the Wild unless a separate arrangement has been established.

Photographs may not be distributed to members, reproduced for merchandise, sold, or used for commercial or fundraising purposes without a separate written agreement.

Contests, Calendars & Third-Party Use

Photographs purchased or received from Dogs in the Wild may not be submitted to photography contests, competitions, calendars, fundraising projects, publications, or other third-party uses.

These activities often involve reproduction, distribution, or licensing rights that are not included with the original purchase.

Any exception to these restrictions must be expressly authorized by Dogs in the Wild in writing.

Commercial Use

Commercial usage rights are not included with standard photograph purchases.

Commercial use includes, but is not limited to, business advertising, product packaging, merchandise, promotional campaigns, and use by third-party businesses or publishers.

Any commercial use requires a separate written licensing agreement specifying the authorized photographs and intended usage.

Responsible Use & Image Integrity

Dogs in the Wild photographs may not be used in a misleading, defamatory, derogatory, or intentionally harmful manner, including uses that misrepresent the dogs, individuals, organizations, or activities depicted.

Photographs may not be used to promote political, ideological, or advocacy campaigns or messages without prior written authorization.

Images may not be substantially altered, manipulated, or modified in ways that misrepresent the original photograph or its subject.

Reasonable cropping and resizing for permitted uses are acceptable. Copyright notices, watermarks, and identifying information may not be removed or obscured.

Photography Credit

When credit is provided, please use:

Separate Agreements & Exceptions

This policy establishes the standard photography usage and licensing terms of Dogs in the Wild.

Any additional permissions, exceptions, or changes must be mutually agreed upon in writing, including through email correspondence.

Where a separate written agreement has been entered into, its terms govern to the extent they differ from this policy.

No rights beyond those expressly granted are implied.
